There is No ‘I’ in Team
“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” – Henry Ford
Back in July, we received the great news that Fleet Transport Awards 2020 had shortlisted ATC under four categories;
- Best Safety Practice
- Customer Service Excellence
- Fleet/Transport Manager of the Year
- Best Online Transport Company
As we celebrate 40 years in business this year, to gain this recognition from industry peers is the icing on the cake to what has been a fantastic journey.
Today I want to acknowledge the team that has helped us get to this point and highlight one of our most essential values – “Developing Ourselves”.
Open Door Policy
I always say that the greatest strength is our staff and the emphasis we put on teamwork. We have always had an open-door policy which I believe is imperative to every business as it allows staff members to collaborate with management in a relaxed manner, and drum up ideas that can strengthen the company through observations that may never have been picked up at board level.
Mentoring and Training
We engage with external training consultants to provide courses to us all on elements of effective communication such as recognising positive and negative feedback and active listening techniques. This is important for in-house communications and indeed those daily check-ins that we have with our clients.
Parallel to this, we run in-house mentoring and cross-training within our teams to ensure that critical skills are upheld.
Affiliations
To aid us further in our self-development journey, ATC actively engages with a range of industry bodies, government agencies and educational institutions to ensure our services are the best in the industry.
As a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and IBEC, we have access to training and educational courses that are recognised by government and regulatory bodies.
We have also engaged with FTA Ireland and their TruckSafe programme to ensure all our staff, fleet and operational processes are managed to the highest Health & Safety standards, as recognised by government regulatory bodies such as the Road Safety Authority.
Through our affiliation with the Irish Road Haulage Association IRHA, we are updated on the very latest developments in the road haulage industry both locally and internationally and have access to the most up to date industry trends to ensure the alignment of our internal practices with the best safety and operational innovations.

Customer Feedback
Every week, we host an internal meeting to discuss customer feedback among our staff and measure against a series of KPIs that we have set out in our management programme. This feedback helps us to identify any gaps that need to be rectified and to celebrate great work among us all.
Through our open-door policy, regular training and genuine camaraderie, we have a happy team who feel empowered in their roles and happy customers who can put their trust in us.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my team for their commitment and hard work and thank you for taking the time to read this blog. I very much look forward to attending the Fleet Transport Awards evening in October to celebrate the excellence within our industry.
